The goal of the National Resource Directory (NRD) is to provide a central, web-based access point to federal, state and local services and resources that support recovery, rehabilitation and community integration for today’s Service members, veterans, families and caregivers. The nearly 14,000 resources included on the NRD include information in several categories such as benefits and compensation, employment, family and caregiver support, homeless assistance and housing.
Over the past six months, the Departments of Defense, Labor and Veterans Affairs have made significant improvements to the NRD to increase the site’s ease of use and functionality for nation’s wounded, ill and injured Service members, veterans and the families who support them. These enhancements include a total of 61 newly vetted and included state-specific resources, as well as new and updated national resources in the education, employment, family and caregiver support, and health categories.
In addition, it’s easier than ever for NRD users to share content with their own website visitors. All users with a company or personal website are encouraged to download one of the NRD’s easy-to-use widgets. Through the NRD’s Search Widget, visitors to your site can access the NRD’s nearly 14,000 resources through a personalized, custom search, right from your homepage. The NRD Resource Widget allows users to customize the widget by state, type of resource and even appearance.
To mark these, and many other enhancements and accomplishments, the NRD and its Veterans Job Bank (VJB) feature were recently recognized as a finalist in the Excellence.gov Awards, in the Excellence in Intergovernmental Collaboration category. The NRD and VJB were chosen as a finalist from 120 total nominations, from across the federal government and industry. The Excellence.gov Awards were created in 2001 by the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) to acknowledge and recognize government programs that use information technology to advance the business of government in an effective, efficient and innovative manner.
Congratulations to the NRD on this great honor, and stay tuned for more enhancements in the next few months!
