Fort Belvoir to host wounded warrior internship fair Friday

Red and blue logo with the words "OWF: Operation Warfighter"Are you an active duty Service member looking for a way to more productively use your time while you recover from a wound, illness or injury? Join us on February 24 at Fort Belvoir in the lobby of the Soldier and Family Assistance Center (Building 1263) to learn more about Operation Warfighter, a Federal internship program for wounded, ill and injured recovering Service members.

Through Operation Warfighter, you can be placed in an internship with an agency or organization such as the Military Health Systems (MHS) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The OCIO is the principal advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) on information management and information technology affairs. The mission of the OCIO is to provide the right information to the right customers at the right time to improve and maintain health status across the entire continuum of military health care operations.

The OCIO has been actively supporting Operation Warfighter internships for the past three years, with the first OWF intern, SFC Brian Mancini, working within the Defense Health Information Management System (DHIMS) starting in 2009.

Currently, there are two OWF interns working at MHS OCIO and the office welcomes any other warfighters who are interested in internships within the areas of Healthcare Information Technology/Information Management, Program Management, Budget/Finance and/or Contracting.

To meet with representatives from MHS OCIO as well as other Federal agencies with internships available, don’t forget to join us on Friday! You can also send any questions about internships or OWF events to
