- Arturo R. Murguia Special Assistant Mr. Arturo R. Murguia works in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He is the Special Assistant to the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Wounded Warrior Care and Transition Policy. Here, he advises the Deputy Under Secretary on all matters pertaining to Our Nation’s Wounded, Ill, and Injured Service Members and their Families. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Murguia served 11 years on Active Duty in the US Army. Mr. Murguia served in numerous Command and Staff positions throughout his Army career. Mr. Murguia deployed for the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and subsequently redeployed to Iraq in 2005 with the 101st Airborne Division. During his second deployment to Iraq, Mr. Murguia commanded a battery in the 18th Field Artillery Brigade (Airborne). For his leadership and his command’s many successes, Mr. Murguia was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Following his second Operation Iraqi Freedom tour, Mr. Murguia was selected to establish and command the Army’s first Warrior Transition Company at Fort Bragg, NC. Following his time in the Warrior Transition Unit, Mr. Murguia was medically retired as an Army Major. Mr. Murguia has been interviewed by myriad television, print, and internet news websites including Fox, NBC, AOL Sports, Scripps News, and UCLA Magazine. He has also written op-ed pieces for UCLA Magazine. Mr. Murguia holds a Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) from the University California Los Angeles. Mr. Murguia lives in Washington, D.C.
