Overview
The Recovery Coordination Program is a Department of Defense (DoD) initiative led by the Office of Warrior Care within the Defense Health Agency (DHA). Our mission is to provide standardized, non-clinical support to ensure wounded, ill, or injured Service members, - and their caregivers and families - receive coordinated, personalized support throughout the continuum of care phases: recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration or transition.
Established by the FY2008 National Defense Authorization Act (Sec. 1611) and implemented through DoDI 1300.24, the RCP provides centralized policy and oversight to the Military Service and US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) warrior care programs.
Key Components of a Warrior Care Program
- Recovery Care Coordinators (RCCs) - Assigned professionals who guide recovering Service members (RSMs) and their caregivers through the continuum of care phases using the comprehensive recovery plan (CRP).
- Comprehensive Recovery Plan (CRP) - A personalized, goal-oriented road map built on eight domains: daily living, career, family, finances, health, legal, military, and spirituality.
- Care Management Team (CMT) - A support network including medical and non-medical personnel who collaboratively manage the RSM's journey.
- Family and Caregiver Involvement - Family members and caregivers are actively involved, supported by the RCC and CMT. They can also access resources like the Caregiver Resource Directory (CRD) and vetted tools via the National Resource Directory (NRD).
Warrior Care Program Eligibility
Eligibility is open to Service members with serious or severe illness or injury, including those diagnosed with PTSD, TBI, or urotrauma, categorized as CAT 2 or CAT 3, and determined to be in the line of duty. Refer to the
