A Veterans Day Message from Warrior Care

On Veterans Day, our Nation pauses to honor our veterans and the sacrifices that so many have made to protect our way of life.  It is often overlooked that a veteran’s commitment to our country does not end the moment he or she retires their uniform.  And while there is no doubt that the lives of our veterans are greatly improved by the tireless work of caregivers, families, mentors, charities, and the Military community, many still return home to an uphill climb.  Whether it is because of wounds, illness or injuries, financial hardships, or difficulty adjusting to civilian life, the transition can be a difficult one for many.  That’s why we must rethink how we address these issues, how to provide care and support to our Service members from the moment they enlist to far beyond their transition, and work to promote wellness throughout the entire Military community.  This is what drives me as an individual and civil servant - and what inspires the entire staff at the Office of Warrior Care each and every day.  So today, and every day, I urge you to take a moment to honor our Nation’s veterans and to also strive to give back, because they have given so much for us. -          Donna K. Seymour, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Warrior Care Policy
