More than 100 wounded, ill and injured service members and Veterans from across the United States will join together at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY, to train and compete in the 2014 U.S. Army Warrior Trials.  Training and practice sessions begin Monday, June 9th, and the Army Warrior Trials are slated for June 15-20.  The event is hosted by Warrior Transition Command. The Army Warrior Trials include athletes from the Army, Marines and Air Force who will face off in archery, basketball, cycling, track and field, swimming, shooting, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball.   Participants in the trials include athletes with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, serious illnesses and amputations. According to Thomas Webb, Deputy to the Commander, Warrior Transition Command, the Army Trials represent something much bigger than a competition.  “Adaptive reconditioning and sports play a significant role in the Army’s holistic approach to recovery and transition for these Soldiers,” he said.  “Warrior Trials allow these Soldiers and Veterans to set goals and to meet them. We believe events of this type provide a sense of purpose, community, and improve their outlook and quality of life.” Following the Army Trials, 40 athletes will be selected to represent Team Army at the 2014 Warrior Games, Sept. 28-Oct 4, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
