After a brief service interruption during a migration to a Department of Defense hosting environment, the National Resource Directory (NRD) has resumed normal service. The NRD, previously hosted on the joint DOD and Department of Veterans Affairs eBenefits Web portal, remains a tri-agency initiative with the Departments of Defense, Labor and Veterans Affairs. Maintaining and improving the NRD will continue to be a priority. The NRD continues to be one of the largest online collections of government and non-government resources specifically designed for service members, veterans, families and military caregivers, with a particular emphasis on resources for wounded, ill and injured service members. With a unique collection of more than 17,000 organized and vetted resources, the NRD provides resources covering a variety of topics, including benefits and compensation, education and training, family and military caregiver support, health, homeless assistance, housing, and other services and resources. With the migration complete, DOD is moving forward with plans to enhance the NRD’s capabilities for users in the near future. Planned updates include:

Refreshing the overall appearance of the NRD, introducing a new look and feel to greatly improve the users’ ability to quickly find resources and information. This includes the addition of an image carousel that will provide users with relevant and timely information highlighting resources, programs and events.

Enhancing and updating the search function by implementing a process that allows the search function to "learn" as searches are performed. Results for similar searches will be faster and more accurate over time.

Reintroducing NRD widgets for use on third-party sites.

Developing and implementing “behind the scenes” software updates that will improve the speed and accuracy of the addition or removal of resources.

The NRD’s participation policy continues to use crowdsourced data points from watchdog organizations in addition to government data sources to ensure the quality of resources on the site. Visit www.nrd.gov to find resources for service members, veterans, families and military caregivers.
