Success in business usually entails bridging the gap between supply and demand. And it’s the same in service delivery programs. In fact, many of the most popular military programs do exactly that.

the Army Career and Alumni Program bridges the gap between the military and the civilian worlds by providing benefits counseling and employment assistance to transitioning soldiers preparing to enter the workforce.
was launched to connect service members, Veterans, their families and caregivers with helpful resources to support them. Operating under the supervision of the Departments of Defense, Labor and Veterans Affairs, the NRD bridges this information gap through a quality assurance process that ensures resources listed on the site come from legitimate organizations which provide programs and services for our Veteran and military communities.
Resources on the NRD are categorized into a variety of topics: Benefits & Compensation, Education & Training, Employment, Family & Caregiver Support, Health, Homeless Assistance, Housing, Transportation & Travel, and Volunteer Opportunities. Our team of subject matter experts works continually to find the best resources available in these categories for the many and diverse audiences the NRD serves.
We also look for additional ways to bridge the gap, in particular with today’s younger generation of Veterans, so called “digital natives” who have grown up using technology to communicate. Examples include the NRD mobile version, which gives users immediate access to the nearly 14,000 resources on the website right from the palm of their hand. We also connect with users through social media on
our Facebook page and through
our Twitter feed. Most importantly, we’ve made hundreds of improvements to the site based on user feedback (and will continue to do so) to make it the best possible tool for locating useful information as quickly and easily as possible.
Since the NRD’s inception, we have witnessed another rapidly growing challenge – Veteran unemployment. To bridge this gap, we created the Veterans Job Bank, which launched in November 2011 and lists hundreds of thousands of jobs opportunities from employers who want to hire Veterans. We are working every day to make this a quality tool that links Veterans with employers who can benefit from their skills and experience.
