Tonia Russell, Department of Defense Peer Support Coordinator for Region 1 and Military Caregiver, is being honored as the 2020 Operation Homefront Volunteer of the Year.
Operation Homefront’s mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive in the communities that they’ve worked so hard to protect.
As a volunteer for the program, Tonia helps caregivers and wounded warriors gain access to the programs and assistance that Operation Homefront offers. Last year, she led a team of volunteers who successfully gave away 250 holiday meals and 200 back packs filled with school supplies. Caregivers, military spouses, service members, and leadership were part of the drive through events held in summer and holiday seasons.
This year, Tonia will be part of a drive-through baby shower, backpack giveaway, and holiday meals for the military. Wounded Warrior families, caregivers, and junior enlisted service members are the target for Operation Homefront. Through their various offered programs, they continue to help support military families.
