November’s annual Warrior Care Month is a time to celebrate the strength and resilience of our Nation’s wounded, ill, and injured Service members and Veterans. It’s also an opportunity to increase public awareness and understanding about the Departments of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) programs and resources that support Service members’ recovery, rehabilitation, and smooth reintegration back to duty or transition to civilian life.

That’s why Warrior Care hosted a Joint-Service Facebook Town Hall on November 30, to provide an open forum for the military community, caregivers, families, and the public to pose some of their most pressing questions on warrior care topics. The Town Hall, held in collaboration with the Service wounded warrior programs, U.S. Special Operations Command Care Coalition, Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center, Military OneSource, VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) Services, and TRICARE, saw overwhelming response, with other organizations, such as the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch, DoD Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program and the Veterans Benefits Administration, contributing to the 163 comments shared during the event. Discussions ranged from helping children understand injury, differentiating Traumatic Brain Injury and other mental health issues, TRICARE coverage for wounded warriors, education benefits under VR&E Services, and eligibility requirements for wounded warrior program support, among others.
